70th Carolopolis Awards

The Preservation Society of Charleston hosted the 70th Carolopolis Awards on February 29, 2024, honoring outstanding achievements in historic preservation throughout Charleston and the Lowcountry. This esteemed annual event recognized 12 exceptional projects across categories including Exterior, Interior, New Construction, Resilience, and Pro Merito.

SouthCon Building Group was among this year’s distinguished recipients, earning two Carolopolis Awards—one for Exterior and one for Interior—for its outstanding historical renovation of the Boone Hall Gin House.

Winners from this year’s Carolopolis Awards represented a wide range of architectural styles and a large swath of the Charleston area.

The Preservation Society has granted 1,500 awards during its 70-year run. This year’s awards took place on Feb. 29 at The Charleston Place.

“Carolopolis projects are rarely about any one individual but how groups of those devoted to stewardship can collectively work together to tackle challenges that can appear insurmountable,” Brian Turner, the Preservation Society’s president, said in a statement.
